I have had many roles, from Chairman of the Parent Teachers Association, to supporting learners with specific educational needs.  A trained assessor, verifier and moderator and a member of Appeals panel.

I trained as a teacher in Lifelong Learning and worked at Ashton College, supporting adults to become teaching assistants. A job which I absolutely loved.

I am very much supportive of continued learning in all forms.

Upon retirement I grasped the opportunity to help the community centre and its development.

I have an extremely busy life, nine grandchildren, two of whom live in Australia, and so pay regular visits to see them.

I completed my further education at Stockport College, in Engineering, and undertook an engineering and draughtsman apprenticeship. I worked as a draughtsman before going into industrial sales, which led to transfer to Canada (Vancouver) in 1980.

I worked in sales in British Columbia and the U.S. Pacific Northwest for 33 years. Mostly in the forestry industry, involving the supplying of handling equipment and related supplies for the packaging of raw logs and finished lumber.

I retired in 2013, and returned to U.K. (Poynton).

My two children, son and daughter, are Canadians and live in the Vancouver area of British Columbia.

I went straight into employment as office junior at a paper coating company in Bollington, rising through the ranks into sales management until 1976  with a move, but remaining within the paper industry and regularly travelling throughout Europe.

In 1993 I bought a small business in Stockport providing sports and corporate awards, learning  basic engraving skills. I sold the business and retired in 2010 but worked on a part time basis on the staff at Poynton Town Council for 11 years.

I married in 1967; in 2027 we celebrate our diamond wedding anniversary. We have two daughters, six grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren all living locally.

I worked for Westminster Bank, which became National Westminster Bank (1964-2000).

I joined Cadet Force at School in 1959 and transferred to the Territorial Army (1964-2002).

I lived in Bearsted, Kent from 1969, then married Rachel in 1974, whereupon we moved to Harpenden, Hertfordshire.

We moved to Poynton in 1988, therefore still foreigners!

I am a child of Poynton, as my family history goes back over 150 years here in the village.

Together with my formative years, I have lived my married life in Poynton for nearly 40 years. We have two daughters who were very much a part of the Centre scene, joining in with the dance, Girl Guides, Crusader and Red Cross groups, not to mention the Friday nights at the Centre when we collected them from around the corner – not cool for mum and dad to be seen out front on a Friday night.

With my husband, we were regulars at the famous Sunday Folk Nights, we had some cracking nights.

I completed my education at grammar school and in 1969 I joined Midland Bank where I held many posts in East Anglia and then London. In 1994 the bank was bought by HSBC for whom I worked until I retired in 2015 completing 46 years of service. My last role for 14 years was the Global Head of Crisis Management dealing with crises affecting our business around the world.

I now run Scouting in Chelford, am a member of Rotary and volunteer for National Trust. I have three daughters who live with their families around Cambridge.

Before I reached school age, my family moved to rural mid Staffordshire. I lived there until moving to Stockport for my first professional job, as a graduate for an IT consultancy firm. I worked in technical roles and then as a project manager and bid manager leading multi-disciplinary design-and-build teams to win complex contracts and deliver bespoke solutions. My clients were medium and large enterprise companies in the telecoms, manufacturing and utilities sectors at home and abroad. I retired in 2020.

My wife and I have lived in Poynton since 1993. Our son was born here and went to Lostock Hall Primary School and Poynton High School.
